SXSW and the YouTube Party

2011
03.18

So this is a special insight into my beekeeping YouTube world.

Yea, so this isn’t a beekeeping update, but some of you might get a kick out of this.   As per my last post, I was invited to a YouTube party for Partners only (Thanks to all my subscribers on OutOfaBlueSky !) at the SXSW event in Austin.

I joked to the YT staff that I would wear my beesuit to the gathering and they immediately encouraged me. So I did. The YT staff thought it was great. Anyway, here is a short video at the party hanging out with some guys from the “Killing Zombies”  channel.

Tell me what Videos You want to see!

2011
01.03

So far I’ve drifted through different topics making videos. A new year is here and I want to make a master plan.
At some point this spring, I’ll put out a Swarm Trapping DVD, and some videos on how to light a smoker, cover basic equipment, and one on how to get into beekeeping.
.
But…
.
Now that I have something of a following, I want to hear from YOU what you’d like to see videos on.

Some interesting Beekeeping videos

Came across a mini documentary on a Aussie beekeeper with an old lumber mill. Give it a watch. About 5 minutes.

Cutting Honeycomb Video done

2010
08.08

Old kindergarten friends are the best.  Even better if they served the full 13 years with you through public schools. Especially when they help cut honeycomb.

.
He’s a doctor now, but he dropped in for vacation. So I had some honey to harvest, so I dressed him in a painters suit, threw a mosquito veil on him and put him to work robbing the bees with me. Lots of fun, he even got stung. (Whoops!)

.

So I’ve been wanting to make a video on how to cut comb, and so we did.

.

.
The basic premise is to have a comb cutter, boiling water and a surface to cut them on. A cookie cooling rack is nice if you like to drain off your comb, but I don’t.

Transfer comb video added

Just updated a little more and added a new video on transferring comb.
I’m really, really, busy this spring. Not much time to update the website, so I’ll try to add a little each week.
I’ve got 7 hives running right now — 2 survivors from last year, 2 cutouts from this year, 3 captured swarms. I’ve just had a package of bees show up today that I”ll install at my friends estate who wants some local honey. They’ll be installed on mediums because I’m running out of deeps.
.
Also, I added an article on hive density.

Moving into my new website.

I’ve been overdue for having my own beekeeping website. My goal is to pack lots of knowledge into small easy-to-digest videos for the average learning beekeeper.

Many of my video segments are on youtube, but YT is not good quality renders, and a poor player as well. So I’m trying to get all of  my videos over to blip.tv which has better quality hosting and codecs. I added these basic 3 today:
