I have caught two swarms this week. Both have swarmed. the first one i just had in a duct tape box untill i could build a top bar.

the second one I caught a few blocks from where i had my first swarm.. i placed the second swarm in my top bar. i sprayed the inside of the box with sugar water and honey water. when i checked on the bees the next morning they were feeding and everything looked fine.

when i came back aroud 5 the box was empty and i didnt see any swarms in any of the nearby trees..

any sugjestion why they might be swarming… they were building comb in the top bar hive when i looked in this afternoon so i didnt know why they would build comb and then swarm..
after i catch a swarm should i lock them in the box and feeded them to make them stay. any thoughts would greatly help i am at a loss as what to do.

Hello, I bought your book and watched quite a few of videos and have made two traps out of new 1×10 lumber, since then I have read that new lumber is a bad choice, do you agree? Any way they have been up over two weeks, lemon grass oil and all, and no activity.Thanks

Has anyone tried just leaving a two inch wide board out of the bottom? Seems like it would be less scary and claustrophobic than a traditional swarm trap. Also if the top of the trap was arranged like a top bar hive with some comb already in place…when retrieving the swarm trap you could just slide in the missing board and cart them down to their new location.

Life saver, thank you! I will be sure to send you a copy of the video, cause like you said if you don’t have proof it never happened. I have caught swarms, extracted bee’s from small spaces. Now for the first time I will be doing a cut out!! These bee’s have been in the wall for years and the home owner wants them now in hives, I am so excited.

By the way my company Bee Whirled TM. makes custom bee hives out of wine, whiskey and beer barrels. Yes we sell them. If you are interested let me know. 415 515 9999.
